I stitched the following images based on the John 14 reading from this weeks lectionary. Once again I am overwhelmed by this intimacy of invitation, this gentleness, this all-consuming-ness.

I have taken specific phrases from the text that inspired these images and superimposed them over the top. The full text of the reading is below.

The patterns/lines are based on sketches I did first and then I transferred them onto cloth and hand stitched them.

I have also included pictures of the stitching just as they are.

Done in black and white because in a world where we’re all about ‘relatives‘ and ‘whatever you think is true‘ this is the Truth – that Love came down, that Love reaches us and reaches for us.

This Love is Truth.

This Truth is Love

Responding with thought and faith to a reading from the lectionary each week.

They aren’t perfect and neither am I.

John 14:15-21

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.
This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.
“I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.
On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.”

Many thanks to Rachel Held Evans for this invitation to reflect and journey with the lectionary.

If these encourage you and you want to share them please acknowledge them as my work via a link. Thanks
